Tochtepec

Tochtepec is one of the 217 municipalities that make up the Mexican state of Puebla. It was founded in 1895 and its head is the city of Tochtepec. It dates back to pre colonial times and since the end of 1179 Tochtepec, along with other towns in the region, are conquered and subdued by the Chichimeca Toltecs.

Documents indicate that Tochtepec existed as a well established community with a cultural degree developed since at least 1000 years ago, since that time the town arose with the name of Tochtepec and its inhabitants were known as tochtepeuas, in its origins Tochtepec was settled at the foot of the hill currently called Cerro de Cristo Rey. The municipality is at an average altitude of 1980 meters above sea level and covers an area of ​​102.10 km². It borders on the north with the municipality of Santo Tomas Hueyotlipan, on the west with Huitziltepec, Tepeyahualco de Cuauhtemoc and Tlanepantla, on the south with Xochitlan Todos Santos and to the east with Tecamachalco.
