Templo Mayor Museum
About Templo Mayor Museum
The Templo Mayor was the principle sanctuary of the Mexica people groups in their capital city of Tenochtitlan, which is currently Mexico City. Its design style has a place with the late Postclassic time of Mesoamerica. The sanctuary was known as the Hueyi Teocalli in the Nahuatl language. It was devoted at the same time to Huitzilopochtli, divine force of war, and Tlaloc, lord of downpour and horticulture, every one of which had a holy place at the highest point of the pyramid with discrete staircases.
The tower in the focal point of the contiguous picture was given to Quetzalcoatl in his structure as the breeze god, Ehecatl. The Great Temple dedicated to Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc, estimating around 100 by 80 m 328 by 262 ft at its base, overwhelmed the Sacred Precinct. Development of the main sanctuary started at some point after 1325, and it was remade multiple times. The sanctuary was devastated by the Spanish in 1521 to clear path for the new house of prayer. After the annihilation of Tenochtitlan, the Templo Mayor, as the greater part of the remainder of the city, was dismantled and the zone redeveloped by new structures of the Spanish frontier city.
The Temple's definite area was overlooked. By the 20th century, researchers had a smart thought where to search for it. This depended on the archeological work done toward the finish of the 19th century and the primary portion of the 20th century. Leopoldo Batres did some unearthing work toward the finish of the 19th century under the Mexico City Metropolitan Cathedral in light of the fact that at the time, scientists thought the church had been worked over the remains of the sanctuary.
