Tahmek

Tahmek Municipality In the Yucatec Maya Language: refuse to embrace is one of the 106 municipalities in the Mexican state of Yucatan containing of land and positioned roughly 39 km southeast of the metropolis of Merida. During pre-Hispanic instances, the location becomes part of the chieftainship of Hocaba. The chief turned into Nacu Iut, when the Spanish arrived. After the conquest the vicinity have become a part of the encomienda machine and Isabel de Lara become one of the first encomenderas of Tahmek. Upon her loss of life, her estates were divided up with 1/2 of Tahmek going with components of Hocaba and Timucuy to D.

Pedro Fernandez de Castro. Fernandez de Castro's half became merged with the property of Tixkunchel. The remainder of her estate remained as Tahmek. In 1597 Juan de Magana Pacheco was the encomendero. A later encomendero changed into Manuel Carrillo de Albornoz. Yucatan d its independence from the Spanish Crown in 1821 and in 1825; the region was assigned to the Beneficios Bajos location with its headquarters in Sotuta, and later handed to the Izamal Municipality. In 1918, it has become head of its very own municipality.
