About Sonoita
Sonoyta, Sonora is a town inside the northern Mexican nation of Sonora. It stands on the U.S.-Mexico border, facing Lukeville, Arizona, within the United States. It is the municipal seat of the municipality of Plutarco Elías Calles. The first inhabitants of this region had been the Tohono O'odham, who lived inside the areas of Pinacate, Quitovac, and Sonoyta. The arrival of Jesuit missionaries to this region modified their way of lifestyles. Therefore, compact communities have been fashioned in particular on the banks of lakes and of the river. At the foothills of a spot known as Loma Alta, sprouted water from a fountain, referred to as via the naturals ᚢon Oidag, O'odham for "base of the water". A missionary network changed into based in Sonoyta in 1693 through Father Kino.
It was referred to as Nuestra Senora de Loreto y San Marcelo de Sonoyta. In 1836 they observed adjacent mines.
