About Santiago Niltepec
Niltepec is a town and municipality in Oaxaca in southwestern Mexico. It is part of Juchitan District within the west of the Istmo de Tehuantepec place. The name manner Hill of Indigo. The town is 60 meters above sea stage. The municipality covers a place of 680.01 km², watered by means of the Niltepec River which rises within the mountains and flows to the lower lagoon. The weather is tropical, with warm summers. Flora consists of mahogany, Nopo, Guanacaste, scrub and grassland.
Wildlife consists of wild boar, raccoon, squirrel, armadillo and iguana. As of 2005, the municipality had 1,367 families with a complete population of 4,961 of who fifty six spoke an indigenous language. Economic activities encompass cultivation of corn, sesame, sorghum, melon and watermelon, livestock farming and production of Mezcal and traditional textiles. Since the city is placed on Highway one hundred ninety, there may be a few tourist changes in nearby handicrafts and mezcal. There are plans to broaden wind farms within the municipality, but these have met nearby resistance due to the communal ownership of land and concerns about the yearly apartment expenses offered, $98 to $117 according to hectare.
