Santa Cecilia Acatitlan
About Santa Cecilia Acatitlan
Santa Cecilia Acatitlan is an archeological zone of the early Aztec or Epi-toltec culture situated in the town of Santa Cecilia, in the district of Tlalnepantla in Mexico State, around 10 km northwest of Mexico City. In pre-Hispanic occasions it was situated on the northwest shore of the incomparable Lake Texcoco. This settlement was related with Tenayuca, the political and religious focus of the time; the two locales are around 3 km separated. Alongside Tenayuca, it was later added by the Mexica and turned out to be a piece of the lacustrine culture of the Valley of Mexico under the standard of Tenochtitlan, until the landing of the conquistadors in 1521.
After the victory of Mexico, Acatitlan started to decrease, and the city, in the same way as other Mesoamerican structures, was disassembled, its stone framing the premise of the new city's places of worship, houses and landmarks. Only one quadranglar storm cellar right now endures, which may have been one of the site's principle structures. It comprises of an enormous staircase paving the way to a sanctuary. Like Tenayuca, it is imagined that the sanctuary was devoted to the love of Huitzilopochtli and Tlaloc. The development strategy was likely the trademark one of progressive structures, one over the other, and in any event four progressive timeframes have been identified.
