About Piedras Negras
Piedras Negras is a city and seat of the encompassing district of a similar name in the Mexican province of Coahuila. It remains at the northeastern edge of Coahuila on the U.S.- Mexico fringe, over the Rio Grande from Eagle Pass in the U.S. province of Texas. In the 2015 enumeration the city had a population of 163,595 inhabitants, while the metropolitan territory had a population of 245,155 inhabitants. The Piedras Negras and the Eagle Pass territories are associated by the Eagle Pass-Piedras Negras International Bridge, Camino Real International Bridge, and the Eagle Pass Union Pacific International Railroad Bridge.
In Spanish Piedras Negras means "dark stones" – a reference to coal stores in the territory. Over the stream, coal was some time ago mined on the US side at Dolchburg, close Eagle Pass. This mine shut around 1905, after a flame. Mexico right now works two enormous coal-terminated power plants named "Jose Lopez Portillo" and "Carbon 2" found 30 miles south of Piedras Negras. These two coal-terminated power plants are right now worked by MICARE, which draws in with the mining and dispersion of coal.
