About Palenque
Palenque was a Maya city state in southern Mexico that thrived in the 7th century. The Palenque ruins date from ca. 226 BC to ca. Advertisement 799. After its decay, it was retained into the wilderness of cedar, mahogany, and sapodilla trees, yet has since been exhumed and reestablished. It is situated close to the Usumacinta River in the Mexican territory of Chiapas, around 130 km south of Ciudad del Carmen, 150 m above ocean level.
Palenque is a medium-sized site, littler than Tikal, Chichen Itza, or Copan, yet it contains the absolute best design, mold, rooftop brush and bas-help carvings that the Mayas created.
