Hunucma

Hunucma Municipality is one of the 106 municipalities within the Mexican kingdom of Yucatan containing of land and located more or less 25 km west of the metropolis of Merida. It is unknown which chieftainship the region became below previous to the arrival of the Spanish. After the conquest the location have become part of the encomienda machine. The encomienda become hooked up beneath Francisco de Montejo the Younger in 1549 and by means of 1571 it had exceeded to Beatriz de Montejo.

In 1579 the encomendero was Diego de Santillan and in 1607 it passed to Martin de Palomar. In 1616 the encomenderos had been Diego Garcia de Montalvo, Jacinto de Montalvo y Olmos, and Martín de Montalvo y Figueroa, but through 1678 it had handed to Diego Tello de Aguillar. The municipal president is elected for a three-12 months time period. The city council has 9 councilpersons, who serve as Secretary and councilors of public lights, public security, schooling and culture, parks and gardens, public works, cemeteries and roads, markets, potable water, and sports.
