Cumpas

Cumpas is a Mexican town located in the northeastern kingdom of Sonora inside the decrease vicinity of the Sierra Madre Occidental; the town is the municipal seat and the most inhabited city of the homonym municipality of Cumpas. According to statistics from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, in 2010 it had a population of 3,003 inhabitants. It was based in 1643 via the Jesuit missionary Egidio Monteffio below the call of Our Lady of the Assumption of Cumpas, with the reason of evangelizing the Opata tribes that inhabited that vicinity in the preceding instances and throughout the conquest.

The territory that nowadays occupies the municipality was inhabited through the indigenous tribe Opatas Teguimes. In 1634 the place turned into visited by Father Tomas Basilio, and in 1643, the Jesuit missionary Egidio Monteffio founded the metropolis with the name of our Lady of the Assumption of Cumpas. After the independence was in rate of a decide of peace and the second one half of the century received the class of municipality attached to the district of Moctezuma.
