About Coeneo
Coeneo is a city within the state of Michoacan; municipal seat of the municipality of Coeneo, its call comes from the word purepecha cuini which means chicken, so etymologically Coeneo method area of birds. In the year 1530 Fray Martin de l. A. Coruna was the first to go into into touch with the natives of the lands that today make up the prevailing Coeneo, quick received the trust, affection and respect of the settlers, whom he convinced to convert to the Catholic religion However, the Spanish conquistador Nuno de Guzman tried to rob the natives of their possessions and abuse them for refusing to conform, this prompted a period wherein the natives returned to the mountains and to destroy the advances that Martin de la Coruna had made.
On December 8, 1542 Fray Jacobo Daciano spoke once more with the natives having the success he had of La Coruna, causing a few families to repopulate the location now referred to as Coeneo due to a scarcity of water around the area. Once the new community becomes set up, plans had been drawn up for the development of the metropolis church and a first-rate plaza, the church changed into given the name of Our Lady of the Rosary.
