About Cacalchen
Cacalchen Municipality is one of the 106 districts in the Mexican province of Yucatan containing 76.64 km2 of land and found around 40 km east of the city of Merida. There is no surviving record of Mayan settlement preceding the success. After the triumph the zone turned out to be a piece of the encomienda framework and Maria Sanchez Sosa was one of the main known encomenderos.
Yucatan proclaimed its freedom from the Spanish Crown in 1821 and in 1825, the zone was allocated to the seaside locale with its central station in Izamal. In May 1848 amid the Caste War of Yucatan, Cacalchen turned into an asylum to Colonel Jose del Carmen Bello after the Mayan agitators vanquished government troops and took Izamal. In December of that year, the Mayan guerrillas told by Jacinto Pat plundered the town and executed the white pilgrims. In 1900 it was pulled back and progressed toward becoming leader of the district which bears its name.
