About Saint Johns Co-Cathedral

St John's Co-Cathedral is a Roman Catholic co-house of God in Valletta, Malta committed to Saint John the Baptist. It was worked by the Order of St. John somewhere in the range of 1572 and 1577, having been authorized by Grand Master Jean de la Cassiere as the Conventual Church of Saint John. The congregation was planned by the Maltese draftsman Girolamo Cassar, who outlined a few of the more unmistakable structures in Valletta. In the seventeenth century, its inside was rearranged in the Baroque style by Mattia Preti and different specialists.

The inside of the congregation is thought to be one of the best cases of high Baroque engineering in Europe. St. John's Co-Cathedral was appointed in 1572 by Jean de la Cassiere, Grand Master of the Order of St. John. It was at first named, in the Italian normal dialect of the time, as Chiesa Conventual di San Giovanni Battista. The congregation was planned by the Maltese designer Girolamo Cassar, who was likewise in charge of the development of numerous critical structures in Valletta. It is held that Cassar went to Rhodes to bring an arrangement of an effectively existing church that was by then changed over to a Mosque, to utilize it as a model for the present Co-basilica.

Anyway Cassar still took choices over the last plan and made changes, and in this manner turned into the sole draftsman of the Co-cathedral. Once St. John's was finished in 1577, it turned into the new conventual church of the Order rather than St. Lawrence's Church in the Order's previous central command Birgu. Construction of the rhetoric and sacristy started in 1598, amid the magistracy of Martin Garzez, and they were finished by Grand Master Alof de Wignacourt in 1604.
