Mellieha is also a tourist destination, which is popular for its sandy beaches and natural surroundings. In the Neolithic period, around 3,000 BC, Melia was home. Several megalithic relics have been found, including the Gajanan temple, as well as many caves and tombs, in which pieces of equipment and pottery were found. During Roman times, Troglodites started living in the valleys of Maglia. During the Byzantine rule the cave settlements continued to exist, but it was abandoned in the medieval period. In 409 AD, the cave was preserved as a church, and now it is known as the sanctuary of our Lady of Miliyaana. Mellieha was one of the first ten parishes of Malta. It still existed in 1436, but at the end of the 15th century or early 16th century, it was soon left, because the North was not safe due to the raids by the Muslims. During the summer months, the Mayly Icea is a popular tourist destination. It is well-known for its beaches, the most famous is the Godari Bay and Golden Bay. C RQAVA is also popular as a dive venue, and includes MV Rosie and P29 Patrol boat debris.
