About Niah Caves

The caverns are thought to have been gone by Europeans looking for minerals, maybe in the late 1840s, yet no documentation is known. Alfred Russel Wallace is said to have learned in regards to the caverns amid his 1855 undertaking to at that point substantially littler Sarawak: if so it was from his host at the Simunjan coal mine, Robert Coulson, who had worked in Labuan and investigated its neighboring zones. Wallace accordingly prescribed to Charles Darwin and the Royal Society that Coulson be named to investigate the caverns of Borneo as a potential site for finding essential primate fossils; notwithstanding, Alfred Hart Everett was picked.
