Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple
About Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist Temple
Being located at the Burma Lane in Pulau Tikus, Dhammikarama is one of the earliest Burmese Temples in Malaysia. Earlier, the temple was known as "Nandy Moloh Burmese Temple". The great Wat Chaiyamangalaram Thai Buddhist temple is located at the opposite side of it. It is a unique temple that houses the historical pagoda, the temple's well and Sima hall. The temple was set in the year 1803 what offers it a long history. History of the temple says that the land was originally purchased by a Burmese named Nonya Betong from a British named George Layton. The Lt Governor Prince of Wales Island, George Leith Baronet granted the official permission for that. After receiving the land grant title, Nonya donated the land for constructing the Dhammikarama temple. The temple is always maintained by a Chief Monk to nourish and enhance the practice of Buddhism here. The temple complex houses the prayer hall, the main shrine, monk's quarters, a dining hall, preceptee's lodge, a sima hall, Sunday school, a lecture hall, and a library. The temple compound is quite expanding. So the visitors always miss to spot the rear section where the well and other incredible parts are located. The environment of the temple is calm and serene with an additional coating of greenery across the park. Another famous temple Wat Buppharam also stands at a very close distance from this temple. Throughout the whole year, the Dhammikarama Burmese temple organizes enormous activities for Buddhist devotees which include Chinese New Year Ancestral Dana, Wesak Day celebration, Water Festival, Observance of Buddhist lent, Pali Chanting classes, Katnina, Festival of light, i.e.,Soon Dawgi, Arahant Upaguttea festivals, Buddhist Lent Dana, Chinese 7th Moon Dana, Ordination of monks, nuns and novices, Cheng Beng Dana, Union Kathina, Meditation classes, Sunday schools, Anniversary Subscription Dinner, Dhamma Discourses, offering of food to the needy and lightening candle etc. Panca-Rupa The Guardian Protector
Panca-Rupa The Guardian Protector This is the most unique part of the Dhammikarma Temple. Five best combinations get united in it such as the lion-faced toe chimera, the trunk, and tusks of the elephant, the deer's horn, four hoofed legs, the body and tail of the fish, two agile ears of the horse, and the two powerful wings of the Roe Garuda. So, it is believed that it can play the role of real protector guarding the world in the form of the globe.
