About Curonian Spit National Park
Curonian Spit National Park was set up in 1991 to ensure the uncommon biological communities found on Curonian Spit, including the sand ridges, the Curonian Lagoon and the encompassing ocean. It covers the greater part of the Lithuanian area of the spit, running from the town of Smiltyne in the north down to Nida, 50km toward the south.
The recreation center is refreshingly wild and undeveloped. Pine backwoods populated by deer, elk and wild hog cover around 70% of the recreation center. Sand hills make up 25% of it. Only a little part is urban, in particular four fundamental towns – Nida, Juodkrante, Pervalka and Preila – referred to all things considered on maps and signs as 'Neringa'. The principle business is tourism, revolved around the towns of Nida and Juodkrante, a twofold edged sword that yields the two its primary wellspring of salary and its greatest natural risk.
Up until the principal many years of the twentieth century, the majority of the spit was German domain. The zone used to have an immensely attractive fascination for German outcasts, and keeps on drawing in countless voyagers right up 'til today. Nowadays, Lithuania imparts the spit to the Russian-controlled Kaliningrad Region. A Street runs the entire length of the spit the distance to Kaliningrad and for sure, with the correct printed material, it's conceivable to join a visit to the spit with a scaled down outing to Russia.
