About Kakamega
Kakamega is a town in western Kenya lying approximately 30 km north of the Equator. It is the headquarters of Kakamega County. The town has a population of ninety nine,987 2009 census. Kakamega is fifty two km north of Kisumu, the third largest city in Kenya and a port town on Lake Victoria. The common elevation of Kakamega is 1,535 metres. Kakamega county is Kenya's second maximum populous county after Nairobi. The county has 9 constituencies in total, specifically Butere, Mumias East, Matungu, Khwisero, Shinyalu, Lurambi, ikolomani, Lugari and Malava. Kakamega became so named due to the fact the word
"kakamega" interprets kind of to "pinch" in Kiluhyah, which become used to explain how European colonists could eat the staple meals, ugali. Local Inhabitants are basically the Luhya tribe, whose monetary activity is mainly farming and fishing. Kakamega serves because the headquarters of Kenya's biggest sugar generating firm, Mumias Sugar, placed inside the city of Mumias. Kakamega turned into the scene of the Kakamega gold rush within the early Nineteen Thirties, fueled in part via the reviews of the geologist Albert Ernest Kitson.
