Fort Shevchenko is a navy-base city and administrative centre of Tupkaragan District in Mangystau Region of Kazakhstan at the japanese shore of Caspian Sea. Primary industries encompass fishing and the extraction of stone. The city become based as a army stronghold by the Imperial Russian Navy. Until 1857 it turned into referred to as Novopetrovskoe and from 1857-1939 as Fort Aleksandrovskii. It become named for Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko, who become assigned to navy carrier right here for the duration of his exile. Today the city is used by the Kazakhstan Navy as a base.
