Roman theater

Amman's Roman Theatre is a 6,000-seat, second-century Roman theatre. A famous landmark in the Jordanian capital, it dates returned to the Roman length when the town become referred to as Philadelphia. The theatre and the close by Odeon are flanking the brand new Hashemite Plaza from the south and the east respectively, at the same time as the Roman Nymphaeum is just a brief stroll away in south-westerly route.

He theatre changed into constructed at some point of the reign of Antonius Pius 138 to 161 CE. The large and steeply raked shape could seat approximately 6,000 people: constructed into the hillside, it became orientated north to keep the solar off the spectators. It was divided into 3 horizontal sections. Side entrances existed at ground stage, one leading to the orchestra and the opposite to the degree. Rooms at the back of these entrances now house the Jordan Museum of Popular Tradition on the one side, and the Jordan Folklore Museum on the opposite side.
