About Ajloun Forest Reserve
The Ajloun Forest Reserve is a nature reserve located in the Ajloun Governorate in north-west Jordan. Established by way of the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature in 1988 in the area around the village of Umm Al-Yanabi, it comprises a place of 13 rectangular kilometres. The reserve is houses a captive breeding programme for the domestically extinct roe deer and has been d an Important Bird Area via BirdLife International.
There also are a number of trekking trails for vacationers. The weather in the reserve is uncommon in Jordan as wooded areas account for only 1% of Jordan's location. The geography of the reserve contains frequently rolling hills and valleys in addition to a few springs. The reserve enjoys a Mediterranean-like climate however has been affected by desertification and deforestation for the past 200 years. The RSCN manages the reserves public and touristic applications. Tourists can stay in tented accommodations or cabins between the months of March and November. The RSCN also leads an educational initiative for nearby children to find out about biodiversity.
