About Twenty-Six Martyrs Museum and Monument
The Twenty Six Martyrs Monument and nearby exhibition hall in Nagasaki are devoted to the twenty six Christians who were executed here on February 5, 1597. They included both remote evangelists and Japanese laymen. Teacher exercises were restricted at the time, and Japan's ruler Toyotomi Hideyoshi arranged the execution as a warning. The landmark is situated in a little stop on a slope not a long way from Nagasaki Station and offers decent perspectives over the city. A straight red line keeps running from the landmark over the recreation center's court toward the Oura Church on the contrary side of the city. Oura Church is likewise committed to the 26 martyrs.
The gallery behind the landmark is dedicated to the memory of the saints and to Christianity in Japan all in all. Its inside is reminiscent of a congregation with recolored glass windows, making for air survey of the shows. In plain view are relics identified with Christianity in Japan, including old archives, statues and adornments. Clarifications of a significant number of the pieces are in English.
