Shimane is a prefecture of Japan situated in the Chugoku district of Honshu. Shimane Prefecture is the second-least crowded prefecture of Japan at 689,963 2016 and has a geographic territory of 6,707 km2. Shimane Prefecture outskirts Yamaguchi Prefecture toward the southwest, Hiroshima Prefecture toward the south, and Tottori Prefecture toward the east. Shimane Prefecture is arranged on the Sea of Japan side of the Chugoku area.
