Okayama is the capital city of Okayama Prefecture in the Chugoku region of Japan. The city was founded on June 1, 1889. As of February 2017, the city has an expected populace of 720,841 and a populace thickness of 910 people for each km². The aggregate region is 789.88 square kilometers 304.97 square miles. The city is the site of Koraku-en, known as one of the best three conventional gardens in Japan, and Okayama Castle, which is positioned among the best 100 Japanese mansions. The city is popular as the setting of the Japanese tale "Momotaro".
