Oiso remains a mainstream shoreline resort and occasion spot for occupants of Tokyo. Oiso is the antiquated focal point of Sagami Province. As a minor seaside settlement, Oiso was under the control of the later Hojo tribe of Odawara amid the Sengoku time frame. In the Edo time frame, it was ostensibly part of Odawara Domain, and created as Oiso-juku, a post town on the Tokaido associating Edo with Kyoto. After the Meiji Restoration and with the foundation of the region framework in 1878, it went under the control of Yurugi District.
