About Nitta Shrine

The quiet grounds of Nitta-jinja Shrine belie a long and colorful history. The altar goes back more than 650 years to the Namboku Period, when groups from the northern and southern parts of Japan were occupied with steady clash. One of the warriors, a samurai named Nitta Yoshioki, was thought to be one of the South's most proficient contenders and strategists. He met his end at the Yaguchi Ferry crossing in current day Ota Ward, when his foes penetrated gaps in the base of his watercraft and shot bolts at the wallowing warrior from the banks. His passing purportedly brought a revile upon all included, bringing about a progression of lightning strikes and flames to the close-by territory.
Neighborhood villagers, trying to mollify the wrathful soul, built the Nitta-jinja Shrine on the site of the samurai's demise. The shrine place is outstanding as a position of good fortune, and furthermore for its 700-year-old zelkova tree that towers over the grounds. The tree has survived ious flames, and also the Tokyo air strikes of 1945 that gutted whatever is left of the holy place structures. It is trusted that the individuals who contact the tree will get good fortunes in wellbeing and life span.
