About Kinkaku-ji

Formally known as Rokuonji, the sanctuary was the retirement estate of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and as per his will it turned into a Zen sanctuary of the Rinzai order after his passing in 1408.

Outside the exit are trinket shops, a little tea cultivate where people can have matcha tea and desserts 500 yen and Fudo Hall, a little sanctuary corridor which houses a statue of Fudo Myoo, one of the Five Wisdom Kings and defender of Buddhism.
