About Jurin-in Temple

Jurin-in sanctuary is situated in the previous Naramachi region , an old quarter of Nara city , which had created with Gangoji-sanctuary as a core. It has been accounted for that Jurin-in sanctuary was established by ASANO NAKAI , Priest Kukai or Priest Shobo at some point between the late Nara and early Heian period.

However , it is more plausible to surmise that this sanctuary was built up amid the early Kamakura period with a stone picture of Jizo-bosatsu as a rule picture for loving , bolstered by the society Buddhism of those days , longing for the salvation from the Hell and admisison to the Buddhist Paradise after death.

In Shaseki-shu , gathered by a Buddhist priest , Muju , in 1283 , Jurin-in is presented as one of the prominent sanctuaries in Nara. A stone stage to put a box is found before the stone picture of Jizo-bosatsu in the sanctuary. It demonstrates that sanctuary used to fill in as fundamental insutitution for individuals' burial service function.
