About Ise
Ise's history is specifically connected to that of Ise Grand Shrine. Ise Grand Shrine is isolated into two fundamental parts: The Inner Shrine and the Outer Shrine. In spite of the names, these are really two physically isolate holy places around six kilometers separated.
Present day Ise started with little settlements that jumped up around the two places of worship. Amid the Edo time frame, Ise was a mainstream goal for journeys which were called "o-Ise-mairi" truly, "Coming to Ise" and in this way these settlements became bigger and formed into little towns. The town around the Inner Shrine was named Uji and the town around the Outer Shrine was named Yamada.
