About Higashi Honganji

Higashi Honganji, or "Eastern Temple of the First Vow" is one of two head sanctuaries of the Jodo Shinshu faction of Pure Land Buddhism, the most famous type of Buddhism in Japan. The other head sanctuary is Nishi Honganji, the western sanctuary, which consistent with its name is found a couple of pieces toward the west of this one.
