Fujinomiya

Fujinomiya is a city located in central Shizuoka Prefecture, Japan. As of September 2015, the city had an estimated population of 130,928 and a population density of 337 persons per km². The total region of the city is 388.99 rectangular kilometres 150.19 sq.Mi. Fujinomiya is an historical settlement, developing as a marketplace city associated with the Ichinomiya, or ideal Shinto shrine of Suruga Province, the Fujisan Hongu Sengen Taisha. It become also a submit city fortified for the duration of the Sengoku length on the number one path connecting Suruga with Kai Province.

During the Edo length, the location was tenryo territory under direct control of the Tokugawa shogunate. British consul Sir Rutherford Alcock made the primary recorded ascent on Mount Fuji by means of a non-Japanese person from Fujinomiya in 1860. During the cadastral reform of the early Meiji length in 1889, the place became reorganized into Omiya Town and eight villages with Fuji District, Shizuoka. Nearby is the sanctuary of Taisekiji temple, based in 1290 through Nikko Shonin because the headquarters of Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism.

On 1 June 1942, the modern-day town was established with the merger of Omiya Town with neighoring Fujioka Village. The town multiplied by means of annexing neighboring Fujine village in 1955, and Kitayama, Shiraito, Kamiide and Ueno villages in 1956. The most recent merger changed into on 23 March 2010, when the town of Shibakawa from Fuji District was merged into Fujinomiya. Fujinomiya is an business center within Shizuoka Prefecture, historically with a heavy emphasis at the paper enterprise. Other manufacturing industries include rotating gadget, chemicals and prescribed drugs.
