About Asuka-dera
Established in 596, around 60 years after the acquaintance of Buddhism with Japan, Asukadera was built as Japan's first full-scale sanctuary. It was initially a huge complex, however now it comprises of a modest bunch of structures that go back just a couple of hundred years.
