About Visconti Castle - Civic Museums
The Castello Visconteo or Visconti Castle is a fortress in Pavia, Lombardy, northern Italy. It became constructed in 1360 by way of Galeazzo II Visconti, quickly after the taking of the metropolis, a loose city-kingdom until then. The credited architect is Bartolino da Novara. The fortress was once the main residence of the Visconti circle of relatives, whilst the political capital of the kingdom become Milan.
North of the citadel a huge park was enclosed, also which includes the Certosa of Pavia, founded 1396 in step with a vow of Gian Galeazzo Visconti, supposed to be a kind of personal chapel of the Visconti dynasty. The Battle of Pavia, climax of the Italian Wars, passed off in the fort park. It presently houses the Civic Museums of Pavia which includes the Pinacoteca Malaspina, Museo Archeologico and Sala Longobarda, Sezioni Medioevale e Rinascimentale Quadreria dell’800, Museo del Risorgimento, Museo Robecchi Bricchetti, and the Cripta di Sant’Eusebio.
