About Santuario di Santa Maria Consolatrice
Otherwise called the Church of our Lady of Consolation, this basilica remains as one of the oldest places of worship in the city and has remained in some shape since the mid eleventh century.
Situated in the Piazza della Consolata around 5 minutes stroll towards the west of the Piazza della Repubblica, this little church has a lot of character and charm.
A triangular pediment enhances the front passage and is held in place by four large stone columns.
Inside the basilica there is a lot of red marble, gold and religious iconography.
The fundamental sacrificial stone highlights a few religious frescos and point by point paintings while the smaller altar and shrine include a gold relief of the virgin Mary.
