About Sant Egidio del Monte Albino
Sant Egidio del Monte Albino is an Italian town of 8,906 populations in the province of Salerno in Campania, whose territory partly falls in the Regional Park of Monti Lattari among Agro Nocerino Sarnese and the hinterland of the coast Amalfi. The town is referred to as Porta Della Costa d Amalfi, being linked to the well known coast via the Valico di Chiunzi. It is the town in which Aniello Califano lived and died creator of the track O surdato nnammurato.
The oldest hint of settlement on the territory of the municipality issues a country villa of the 2nd century BC, later integrated into the crypt of the abbey of Santa Maria Maddalena. Also from the Roman period belong a marble block with depictions of the god Sarno, used within the fountain of Saint Nicholas or supply Helvius. The god appears within the known iconographic versions as a young guy and as a mature guy at the special sides of the block, referable to the river on the source and at the mouth.
