About Saint Mark s Basilica
The Square is overwhelmed at its eastern end by the considerable church of St Mark. It is portrayed here by a perambulation beginning from the west front of the congregation and continuing to the right.The west veneer of St Mark's basilica.
The church is depicted in the article St Mark's Basilica, however there are parts of it which are so much a piece of the Piazza that they should be specified here, including the entire of the west exterior with its extraordinary curves and marble embellishment, the Romanesque carvings round the focal entryway and, most importantly, the four steeds which direct the entire piazza and are such intense images of the pride and energy of Venice that the Genoese in 1379 said that there could be no peace between the two urban communities until the point when these stallions had been bridled;four hundred years after the fact, Napoleon, after he had vanquished Venice, had them brought down and sent to Paris.
