Rionero in Vulture
About Rionero in Vulture
Rionero in Vulture is a city and comune within the province of Potenza, inside the southern Italian location of Basilicata. It is placed on the slopes of Monte Vulture in the northern a part of the region. The first historical mention of the hamlet of Saint Maria di Rivonigro goes once more to 1152, while it is mentioned as a feudal possession of the bishop of Rapolla. In 1316 the population of Rionero abandoned their hamlet and took part within the introduction of the village of Atella which had received tax concessions.
The hamlet remained unpopulated during maximum of the 14th and 15th centuries till the influx of refugees from Albania and numerous groups taking advantage of tax exemptions promulgated in those years. Its records overlap with the ones of the friends Barile, Melfi, Ginestra and Maschito. On April 1, 1502 Louis d Armagnac, Duke of Nemours and Gonzalo Fernandez de Cordoba met on the Church of St. Antonio Abate in Rionero to barter whether or no longer France or Spain would control the provinces of Principato Citra, Principato Ultra, Capitulate and Basilicata. In 1627 the population of Rionero has been compelled to exchange their non secular observances from the Greek rite to the Latin rite thru Diodato Scaglia, the Bishop of Melfi.
