Pontida

Pontida is an Italian town of 3,362 inhabitants within the province of Bergamo in Lombardy. Belonging to the Lario Orientale mountain network Valle San Martino, it is approximately 16 kilometers to the west of the Orobic capital. The first real urbanization came about at the hands of the Romans, who exploited the strategic position of the metropolis, placed near a crucial military road that related Bergamo to Como, the terminal part of the only that connected Friuli with the Rhaetia regions. The territory became inserted in a militarily turbulent place and on the same time of critical importance for Rome as a military and industrial crossroads towards Europe.

Its history is linked to the well known Benedictine abbey dedicated to San Giacomo Maggiore, founded by using Alberto da Prezzate among 1076 and 1079.
