About Monte Semprevisa
Santo Stefano is an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the west shore of Italy, and part of the Pontine Islands.
It has a roundabout shape, is under 400 meters in width, and is found 2 kilometers east from the adjacent island of Ventotene.Like whatever remains of the archipelago, the island was made by volcanic activity.
It is commanded by an old jail worked by the Bourbons, finished in 1797 and being used until 1965.
It has 99 cells 4.50 by 4.20 meters around a focal watchtower. Worked for 600 detainees, it had 800 out of 1817 . Individuals detained included Carmine Crocco, the most essential scoundrel amid the Italian unification, and the rebel Gaetano Bresci, who slaughtered King Umberto I in 1900.
He was detained there for a year prior being discovered hanged in his cell. Amid the Fascist administration, different detainees were the future President of Italy Sandro Pertini, Umberto Terracini, Giorgio Amendola, Lelio Basso, Mauro Scoccimarro, Giuseppe Romita, Altiero Spinelli and Ernesto Rossi.
