About Imola
Imola is a town and comune inside the Metropolitan City of Bologna, placed on the river Santerno, in the Emilia Romagna region of northern Italy. The town is traditionally considered the western front to the historical region Romagna. The metropolis is maximum noted as the home of the Autodromo Enzo-e-Dino Ferrari which formerly hosted the Formula One San Marino Grand Prix the race was named after the nearby independent republic of San Marino, as Monza already hosted the Italian Grand Prix and the deaths of Formula One drivers Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger on the circuit in the course of the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix.
The dying of Senna was an occasion that greatly surprised the sporting international and caused heightened Formula One protection requirements. The city became anciently referred to as Forum Cornelii, after the Roman dictator L. Cornelius Sulla, who founded it approximately 82 BC. The metropolis turned into an agricultural and buying and selling centre, famous for its ceramics. The name Imola changed into first used within the 7th century by the Lombard, who carried out it to the fort whence the call exceeded to the town itself.
