Genova is the capital of the Italian location of Liguria and the sixth-largest metropolis in Italy. In 2015, 594,733 people lived in the metropolis's administrative limits. As of the 2011 Italian census, the Province of Genova, which in 2015 became the Metropolitan City of Genova, counted 855,834 resident persons. Over 1.5 million people stay within the wider metropolitan place stretching along the Italian Riviera. Located on the Gulf of Genova within the Ligurian Sea, Genova has historically been one of the most essential ports on the Mediterranean: it's miles currently the busiest in Italy and in the Mediterranean Sea and 12th-busiest in the European Union.
Genoa has been nicknamed los angeles Superba due to its glorious past and staggering landmarks. Part of the vintage metropolis of Genoa was inscribed at the World Heritage List in 2006 as Genova: Le Strade Nuove and the device of the Palazzi dei Rolli. The town's rich cultural records in art, tune and cuisine allowed it to emerge as the 2004 European Capital of Culture. It is the birthplace of Christopher Columbus, Andrea Doria, Niccolo Paganini, Giuseppe Mazzini, Renzo Piano and Grimaldo Canella, founder of the House of Grimaldi, amongst others.
