About Forte Begato
Forte Begato is a fortified work included in the “New Walls “to defend the city, built on a vast plateau along the branch of the defensive wall that from the Forte Sperone descended along the ridge of the Val Polcevera .
It takes its name from the underlying village of Begato , a fraction of the Riolo district , on the outer side of the walls.
The Begato Fort consists of a large quadrangular barracks, part on two floors and part on three, with four base stations at the corners and a central courtyard.
The upper terrace was originally protected by a pitched roof with slate tiles, restored during recent restorations, although different from the original one.
