About Chieti Cathedral

Chieti Cathedral is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Chieti, committed to Saint Justin of Chieti. Formerly the episcopal seat of the Diocese of Chieti, it's miles now the seat of the Archbishops of Chieti-Vasto. The Italian Catholic Archdiocese of Chieti-Vasto obtained that name in 1986. The historical Archdiocese of Chieti changed into expanded from a diocese in 1526. Chieti is the historic Teate. In the Gothic War it become captured by using Totila; later it fell into the fingers of the Lombards, from whom it turned into captured through Pepin and devastated.

The Normans rebuilt the metropolis, which thenceforth belonged to the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. Saint Justinus is venerated because the first Bishop of Chieti, and the cathedral is devoted to him. Several of his successors are also honored as saints, amongst them Gribaldus, whose portrait is at the bronze doorways of the monastery of St. Clement inside the Island of Pescara. The cathedral became built in the 9th century and rebuilt in the 13th century.
