About Chiesa di San Francesco
The church of San Francesco is one of the main medieval monuments of the city of Lodi.
Its origins date back to 1252, when the bishop of Lodi Bongiovanni Fissiraga reintroduced in the city the Minor friars, already expelled a few years earlier due to intolerance of the Ghibelline faction, and gave them the small church of s. Nicolò.
The church in Romanesque Gothic style has an unfinished façade just above the central rose window and is characterized by the "a sky" mullioned windows, a particular Lodi area studied to give lightness to the frontal structure.
Immediately under the rose is the porch with columns in terracotta on high plinths of stone.
