About Chiesa di San Filippo Neri
The Church of San Filippo rises along Corso Umberto I and dates back to the mid-eighteenth century.
A fine example of late Baroque, San Filippo was built on the remains of a previous church dedicated to the oratories.
The façade presents notable scenographic effects and is characterized by an ascending rhythm in the monumental body, very articulated.
The façade - slightly convex and with a double row of pilasters - is marked by a cornice, and enlivened by the curved tympanum and broken by the gable.
The bell tower has remained unfinished.
The interior is a Greek cross, which extends longitudinally in the presbytery: the corners however are beveled so as to give the plant a rough and continuous perimeter, accentuated by frescoed decoration, which simulates a marble covering with capricious motifs of fake rockery architecture.
The Assumption is frescoed in the dome, while in the pendentives four groups of apostles are noted.
