About Castello Maniace
The Castello Maniace is a stronghold and château in Syracuse, Sicily. It is arranged at the furthest purpose of the Ortygia island projection, where it was built in the vicinity of 1232 and 1240 by the Emperor Frederick II.
It bears the name of George Maniakes, the Byzantine general who assaulted and took the city in 1038. Initially, one could just enter the manor over a scaffold spreading over a channel.
An element of the manor is the adorned gateway.
Today the manor is available to open and is a neighborhood vacation spot in Syracuse.
In the fifteenth century it was utilized as a jail.
In the next century it was incorporated into the stronghold shielding the harbor and the city.
A colossal blast harmed it in 1704, after which it was remodeled and adjusted to the utilization of weapons.
