About Casoli
Casoli is a municipality and town inside the Province of Chieti in the Abruzzo area of Italy. It is situated on a foothill of the Majella mountain, at the bottom of which runs the Aventino River, tributary of the Sangro. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 5.901 and an area of 66 rectangular kilometers. Casoli borders the subsequent municipalities: Altino, Civitella Messer Raimondo, Gessopalena, Guardiagrele, Palombaro, Roccascalegna, Sant'Eusanio del Sangro. The settlement of Cluviae, a city of the Caraceni tribe that turned into the most conquered territory through Lombards in the 6th century.
The medieval name "castri de Casule" changed into first recorded in 878 AD within the Memoriatorium abbatis Berthari, a manuscript conserved within the Abbey of Monte Cassino. The village became controlled, inside the 14th century by way of the Orsini own family, who fortified the Norman castle.
