About Argenta
Argenta is a town and comune within the province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna. It is placed approximately 30 kilometres southeast of Ferrara, and midway among Ferrara and Ravenna. Argenta is located in a flat agricultural vicinity near the Valli di Comacchio lagoon wetlands. Much of the latter is these days a flora and fauna sanctuary and Argenta is domestic of the Marsh Museum which gives many facilities for ornithology. The metropolis was based via the Romans.
In 1295 it changed into the seat of a convention of the main Ghibelline leaders of Romagna to determine the route of the war in opposition to the Papal forces. In 1923 a Fascist squad murdered a Catholic priest, don Giovanni Minzoni, an anti-fascist and the voice of the terrible farmers in Romagna, in addition to a chum of numerous socialist politicians like Natale Galba. During World War II the vicinity turned into a part of the German Gothic Line. In April 1945, within the Allied advance of Operation Roast, it was the area of the Battle of the Argenta Gap.
