About Amalfi Cathedral

Amalfi Cathedral is a ninth century Roman Catholic house of God in the Piazza del Duomo, Amalfi, Italy. Once in the past the archiepiscopal seat of the Diocese of Amalfi, it has been since 1986 that of the Diocese of Amalfi-Cava de' Tirreni. Overwhelmingly of Arab-Norman Romanesquestructural style, it has been renovated a few times, including Romanesque, Byzantine, Gothic, and Baroque components. The church incorporates the connecting ninth century Basilica of the Crucifix. Driving from the basilica are ventures into the Crypt of St. Andrew.
The more up to date church was worked alongside the more established basilica that was based on the vestiges of a past sanctuary. The remaining parts of St. Andrew were allegedly conveyed to Amalfi from Constantinople in 1206 amid the Fourth Crusade via Cardinal Peter of Capua. In 1208, the grave was finished and the relics were swung over to the congregation. The front veneer was revamped in 1891 after the first one crumbled. It is of striped marble and stone with open curves that have bind specifying not regularly found in Italian sacrosanct engineering while the tiled vault is very normal among chapels of the area. The tympanum's mosaics depict "The triumph of Christ" in a work made by Domenico Morelli and whose unique plans are held in the Town Hall.
