About Agropoli
Agropoli is a city and comune positioned inside the Cilento area of the province of Salerno, Campania, Italy. It is located on the start of the Cilentan Coast, on the Tyrrhenian Sea. The promontory on which Agropoli stands has been inhabited when you consider that Neolithic times. It appears, but, that it became now until the later Bronze and Iron Ages that it came to be continuously inhabited by way of a solid, indigenous population, which lived off searching and fishing. To the east of the promontory, on the mouth of the River Testene, there's a natural sheltered bay, called "Foce" in historic times, but which is now almost absolutely silted up.
Before and after the muse of nearby Poseidonia, the Greeks used it for trading with the local community. They gave the promontory the Greek name, Petra , and built a temple on it, devoted to Artemis, the Goddess of Hunting. It has been set up that in Roman instances, at the coastal stretch, now called San Marco, east of the promontory, and to the proper of the Testene, a seashore town known as "Ercula" advanced and flourished among the 1st century BCE, and the 5th century CE.
